The "Cretan Horizon" is a new musical project consisting of eight songs and an instrumental signing Markopoulos, synthetic and lyrically. The thematic focus of this series of songs branches in thoughts and impressions of juvenile progress of the great composer in Crete, his homeland.
Yannis Markopoulos was born in 1939 in Heraklion, Crete, parents old families of the island. But coming from Lasithi and spent his childhood and teenage years in Ierapetra, where is the family home. There, in the conservatory of the coastal city, gets his first music lessons in theory and learning to play the clarinet in band and violin at the city conservatory. His first influences from the local music with the fast dances and repeated small motifs from classical music and the music of the wider Eastern Mediterranean.
The "Cretan Horizon" is a deeply experiential musical work. A work full of optimism and openness which expresses the values of the island, where the companionship and communication are positions and eliminate loneliness and intolerance.
Yannis Markopoulos is the one who first musical works seized and taught Cretan performers, believing in the power expressed in the region equivalent to the metropolis. Having highlight Nikos Xylouris and Charalambos Garganourakis, selects and proposes now George Nikiforos Zervaki, a young singer from Crete separately interpret contemporary music of our country. With the particular vocal qualities and the great interpretation of the world through the teaching of the composer, opens the new generation of singers and lyra players. Voice and personality, Markopoulos finds new performer of the work songs.
In the "Cretan Horizon" the composer outlines a modern course full of youthful Walking, thoughts, fantasies and future concerns. In verse composer inspired by the words of ordinary people, the wisdom, the spirit of the world and the world of Greek scholars and poets against a transnational world, where technology is inserted between human relations.
The project involved the 14-strong orchestra "Palintonos harmony" and the vocal ensemble Libro Coro, under the direction of the composer.
