GIANNIS SFAKIANOS - FEGGAROSTRATA
Yiannis Sfakianos releases his first album entitled "Fengarostrata", a work that reveals the sedimentation of his thoughts, both synthetically and lyrically. Starting from the forms of Cretan traditional music, the album combines sound colors and influences from the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, creating a unique soundscape that remains faithful to its original core. The thematic axis touches on timeless issues and moral values that still concern society today, while love and "takhtarismata" are not missing. The album features the participation of great artists such as Yannis Charoulis and Giorgis Xylouris - Psarogiorgis, adding their own special identity to the final result. The contributors who collectively signed the production and orchestration of the album are the main musicians of the project: Giannis Sfakianos – violin and vocals, Harris Laureisen - lute and Harris Bakas - percussion. The album includes six new compositions and two traditional, previously unreleased songs from the research archive of Giannis Sfakianos. In addition to himself, the excellent Giannis Vardas - Lyrarogiannis also participates in the lyrics, while rare traditional lyrics are also utilized. Giannis Sfakianos, originally from Kritsa, Lassithi, is a traditional violinist with a significant career. He has studied alongside great musicians such as Ross Daly, Kyriakos Gouventas, Michalis Kouloumis, Haris Lambrakis, Giorgos Marinakis, Giorgos Symeonidis, Elias Papadopoulos, etc. He holds a violin degree from the Conservatory, while he continues his studies at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia. His musical appearances outside of Greece include countries abroad (USA, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Egypt, Cyprus, etc.) while he has collaborated, both on record and on stage, with numerous artists and with more than 10 participations in recorded works (e.g. "The East of Crete" by Nikos Dionysopoulos, "Greek Traditional Miniatures" by the university orchestra Violine, etc.). His role as a musician extends with multiple appearances in films and series (e.g. Captain Michael, Postcard, Luger, etc.).
