GEORGE MEIS - CRETE, MOTHER OF THE EUROPEAN CIVILIZATION
After fourteen arduous years, I here present my second album on Crete. In essence, I would say this is something new. Something, perhaps more modern. However, the old exists side by side with the new.
People, landscapes and settlements of a previous period are borrowed from the first album. They comprise the Crete I first saw fourty-four years ago. Then, at the beginning, an eighteen year old teenager, I shot my first photographs in black and white, Of those, the photographs of Manolis Nikoloudakis are in the beginning:
not only in order to honor his memory,
and not only in gratitude for all he taught me...
but because this shepherd from the White Mountains, unknowingly, reflects in his person thousands of years of history. (From the publisher)
