The book "Life and Times of Alexis Zorbas" is one of the most famous works of Nikos Kazantzakis which receives the 1954 award for the best foreign novel published in France and among the 100 best books of all time according to the report compiled in 2002 by the Norwegian Book Club. The plot of the play takes place in Crete whilst respectively the real George Zorbas transformed the fictional person of Alexis Zorbas. The story begins when they meet in Piraeus, the two main characters of the book: the Author and Zorba. The Author, having impressed with the unconventional character of Zorba and constantly Philosophumena passion for life, decides to hire him as a foreman in his business. In Crete, settling in the hotel of Madame Hortense, an impoverished santezas, who soon becomes his lover Zorbas, one of the many women in his turbulent life. A substantial body of the novel are the discussions of two friends during their cooperation lignite proving a pretext literary construct.
