The baglamas or baglamadaki (from the Turkish bağlama), is a night musical instrument, like the tambourine, an evolution of the ancient Greek pandura [1] and a miniature of the bouzouki, used in Greek folk music. It usually has three double strings. The sound of the baglama is sharp. Each string is tuned one octave higher than the corresponding one on the bouzouki. The reason that the baglamas is smaller is that this way the players could easily hide it since it was banned during the Turkish occupation and later during the dictatorship (see reports by Elias Petropoulos).
