The material consists of ten representative melodies from the eleven geographical sections of today's Greek space: Thrace, Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, Central Greece, Morea, Ionian Islands, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Crete and North Aegean islands. In addition, ten melodies found on the eastern side of the Aegean and attributed to Asia Minor (Aidinio, Ayvali), Constantinople and elsewhere are also recorded. A representative sample of rhythms and dances is listed, while there are also orchestral pieces or a capella vocal and/or choral parts. The collection moves progressively from the simple melodies to the more complex and, finally, the most demanding ones. The last part of the book deals with dances and rhythms. Most of the rhythmic patterns that an accompanying musician may encounter in any dance are mentioned. Have a good journey, then, in the world of Greek tradition, and don't forget that we are all part of it. Without our own participation, our own versions or individual variations, this music ceases to be traditional. (Excerpt from the Foreword of the book)
