In the "Amber and Sapphire" two generations of songs meet. The renowned performer Vasilis Skoulas, a living legend of Cretan tradition, plays songs written by George Nikiforos Zervakis, one of the most representative young composers / singers who renew the musical idiom.
The Anogianos Vasilis Skoulas, always anxious and open to the new, found in Giorgos Nikiforos Zervakis, a valuable collaborator with whom he has worked closely for years, in appearances and now in the discography with the complete work "Amber and Sapphire".
An album that includes nine new songs in music by George Nikiforos Zervakis, with lyrics by Frosso Giatromanolaki, Yannis Botonakis, Panos Dimitropoulos and the composer himself.
Songs that hopefully bridle the past with today, in a set that sounds fresh and classic at the same time, proposing a new aesthetic approach to the Cretan song.
Vasilis Skoulas, an artist of rare sensitivity, seems to travel with every syllable to the most lyrical landscapes of a music that has always existed. Strong and rugged, like the Cretan landscape, he creates unique feelings in every word.
For Giorgos Nikiforos Zervakis this is still a dreamy collaboration after his previous work, "Cretan Horizon", which sang new songs by the great composer Yannis Markopoulos, who described him as "the most important contemporary Cretan singer". Two years ago he became well known all over Greece, with the moving song "Standing on My Feet", which he wrote and sang together with Leonidas Balafas.
In addition to the new songs, "Amber and Sapphire" includes seven live recordings, from the common appearances of both of them, which were thought to be present here, completing their unique chemistry. As Vasilis Skoulas writes in the cd insert: "I want to believe that we have another common path ahead of us because, above all, we are a good company."
To add Zervakis: "In Vasilis Skoulas I found several answers to questions that troubled me a long time, I will write a lot more because I think that there are not enough volumes to describe how I feel and thank it limits".
