After years of search efforts of the first Cretan music recordings, the Orpheum Phonograph company presents the first volume of CRETANS MOUSIGETES series with very rare gramophone records of the period 1907-1955, many of which survive today in a single copy!

For the first time carried out such a large and complex project about the history of Cretan music. Specifically, 8 CD presents a total of 186 songs and tunes (92% of them have not been reissued to date), together with important information for the record companies, but also with rich biographies of musicians involved.

Condensed version include:

• The first recording Cretan music with Cretan wedding song from Vamiano lyrist Yiannis Karavanakis in 1907, the anthem of the Cretan State, the first recording of the Cretan pidichtos dance by the Turkish-clarinetist Imvraimakis, the first tampachaniotika songs with N. Koufiano and C. Lazaridis and four first executions known rizitiko "Pote tha kanei xasteria".

• The complete works of Cretan discography in America between 1917-1926 with the pioneers lyrists Kapokis and Kaderis and the first recorded music of eastern Crete, Nikolaos Mastorakis to the mandola.

• The complete works of prewar discography of the legendary Foustani, M. Lagoudaki, Karaviti, Mariano, Charchali, Papadofragkaki, Antonogiorgaki, Lefkari and Psilo.

• The bulk of the work record of the famous lyre player Nicholas Koufianou and Antonis Papadakis (Kareklas) and Stratis Kalogeridis.

• The first recordings of the great Charilaos Piperakis (Kritikos) along with two recordings of 1938 never issued in season and contained first digitized by the surviving company dies.

This is an accurate recording of different musical "identities" of Crete, focusing on the early period of discography. Precious is the insert 300 pages accompanying the edition, contains rare photographs of historical and musicological comments from the distinguished musicologists, Maria Chnaraki university professors and Yannis Zaimaki and researchers Agesilaus Aligizakis, Giorgi Vavoule, Yannis Harkoutsis, Costas Kopanitsanos, Stavros Kourousis etc.
